Reflection

The structure and variety of this assignment created an enjoyable challenge for me. Choosing eight images to submit without the restraint of taking them in sequence gave me the freedom to explore, move and shoot in new locations over the course of a couple of days. Additionally, where some may see the strict composure requirements as a structure, they helped me to observe my environment in new ways. Sometimes being given open guidelines can create a lot of pressure for me, so I tend to excel creatively within the confines of structure. Having eight composures to capture took away the stress and overthinking I sometimes experience while shooting and allowed me to experiment and explore.

Walking through my neighborhood, I thought back to Assignment 6, where we were encouraged to think through our images before taking them. As I walked, I started to visualize the different requirements and consider what might be interesting to observe from different perspectives. This practice of composing images in my mind followed me to tea at the Boston Public Library as well with my family. While I could take my time and contemplate what I wanted to create walking through my neighborhood alone, my shoot at the library was fast paced - capturing the action of my family enjoying the small sandwiches or asking them to pose in the courtyard after the deceptively big meal. Although it posed a new challenge, I really enjoyed shooting my family in a unique location, to both my work and to them. Overall, I am very excited about the images I created this week.
